Vibes Weekly #34 | A Record Tied, KATSEYE’s No. 1 & the US Open 🎾

EDITION #34 | August 30, 2026

Your weekly dose of music news + VibesXS updates

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

This week’s Vibes Weekly newsletter brings a record tied, a first-ever No. 1, and the start of the last Grand Slam of the year — summer’s last one. Fun music-history note: August 30 marks the anniversary of Bob Dylan releasing Highway 61 Revisited in 1965 — the album where he fully plugged in, and one of the records that changed what a “rock album” could be.

📈 A RECORD TIED, AND A FIRST-EVER NO. 1

Ella Langley‘s “Choosin’ Texas” logged a 19th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week — tying the longest-running No. 1 in the chart’s history among non-holiday songs. The only run ahead of it belongs to Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which has spent 22 weeks at No. 1, but as a holiday perennial it sits in a category of its own.

Up top on the Billboard 200, KATSEYE scored their first-ever No. 1 album with the five-track EP WILD, debuting with 170,000 equivalent album units — the largest opening week by an all-woman group since Billboard 200 moved to units-based reporting in December 2014. Phoebe Bridgers debuted right behind them at No. 2.

🎵 NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: WARREN, INTERPOL & MORE

August 28 brought Alex Warren‘s sophomore album WILDCHILD, a 13-track project named for his late father’s childhood nickname that leans into grief, love and healing. The same Friday also saw new releases from Interpol, Alabama Shakes and Billy Strings, plus a genuine throwback: Post Malone‘s 2016 debut mixtape August 26 finally hit streaming for the first time, newly remastered and pressed to vinyl a decade later.

🏆 CITY MAKE A STATEMENT, SPURS START ROUGH

Manchester City put together their most complete performance of the young season, beating Chelsea 3–0 to close the gap on early leaders Arsenal to six points, with a game in hand. Meanwhile at the Stadium of Light, Tottenham lost 1–0 to Sunderland in Roberto De Zerbi‘s first match in charge — a result that puts Spurs in the relegation zone at this early stage of the table.

🎾 THE US OPEN MAIN DRAW BEGINS

The final Grand Slam of the year got underway at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with a stacked opening Sunday on Arthur Ashe: Jessica Pegula against Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Daniil Medvedev against Hugo Gaston, four-time champion Novak Djokovic against Mariano Navone, and 46-year-old Venus Williams taking on fellow American Sofia Kenin under the lights. The tournament runs through the men’s singles final on September 13.

🔥 FEATURED STORY: “CHOOSIN’ TEXAS” TIES THE ALL-TIME NON-HOLIDAY RECORD

Nineteen weeks at No. 1 — and now, officially, a tie for the record.

Last edition we asked whether Ella Langley‘s “Choosin’ Texas” could break into all-time chart-history territory. This week it did: a 19th week atop the Billboard Hot 100 ties the longest-running No. 1 among non-holiday songs ever charted. Only Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” a seasonal song that recharts every December, has spent longer at the summit — 22 weeks, accumulated over multiple holiday seasons rather than one continuous run.

What’s remarkable is that this run has been continuous since February — seven straight months without ever being displaced, powered by the same multi-format engine (country radio, streaming, social discovery) that’s carried it since week one, rather than a single moment that faded and came roaring back.

  • 19: consecutive weeks at Hot 100 No. 1
  • Tied: for the longest non-holiday No. 1 run in Hot 100 history
  • 22: weeks for Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the only run ahead of it (holiday chart, separate category)
  • February 2026: when the streak began — seven months at the top, uninterrupted

Key Takeaway: “Choosin’ Texas” is now, by any reasonable measure, one of the biggest non-holiday chart runs of all time — and every additional week from here writes new chart history outright.
