Vibes Weekly #35 | A Chart Record Stands Alone, Beyoncé Turns 20 & NFL Kicks Off Down Under 🎵

EDITION #35 | September 6, 2026

Your weekly dose of music news + VibesXS updates

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

This week’s Vibes Weekly newsletter brings a chart record that finally stands alone, a 20-year victory lap from Beyoncé, and a US Open bracket that keeps chewing through seeds. Fun music-history footnote: September 6 marks the anniversary of a 1968 session at Abbey Road where Eric Clapton stopped by to play lead guitar on George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” — the first and, to this day, only time a non-member played on a Beatles record.

📈 “CHOOSIN’ TEXAS” STANDS ALONE AT NO. 1

Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” logged a 20th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, pulling it out of the three-way tie we mentioned last edition — with Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Old Town Road” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” — to become the longest-running non-holiday No. 1 in the chart’s history, on its own. Only Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has spent longer at the top (22 weeks), and as a holiday perennial that keeps returning every December, it sits in a category of its own.

💿 ENHYPEN TOP THE 200, BEYONCÉ TURNS BACK THE CLOCK

Up top on the Billboard 200, ENHYPEN moved into the No. 1 spot this week, taking over from KATSEYE’s WILD EP. Elsewhere, New Music Friday’s biggest name wasn’t actually new music: Beyoncé marked the 20th anniversary of B’Day with a deluxe reissue of the 2006 album, headlining a Friday that also saw releases from Ellie Goulding, Wiz Khalifa and James Blunt.

🎾 UPSETS KEEP ROCKING THE US OPEN

The US Open’s third and fourth rounds delivered plenty of shakeups: Alexander Blockx upset fifth seed Flavio Cobolli, and Francisco Cerundolo knocked out ninth seed Taylor Fritz. On the women’s side, No. 4 seed Coco Gauff advanced to the Round of 16, and 18-year-old Iva Jovic continued her breakout run into the fourth round. The semifinals are still ahead, with the women’s final set for September 12 and the men’s for September 13.

🔥 FEATURED STORY: “CHOOSIN’ TEXAS” WRITES ITSELF INTO THE RECORD BOOKS ALONE

Twenty weeks, and now nobody left to share it with.

Last edition, we left off with “Choosin’ Texas” tied for the longest non-holiday reign at No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history — 19 weeks, level with two of the biggest crossover hits of the last decade. This week, it went one better. A 20th week at the top means Ella Langley’s ode to a Texas homecoming no longer shares that record with anyone; it owns it outright, with real distance between it and whatever comes next.

The song is the lead single from Langley’s album Dandelion, and its staying power says as much about how country music is crossing over right now as it does about the track itself — nineteen weeks was already remarkable, but a twentieth is the kind of number that gets a chart run its own line in the history books.

The only run left ahead of it is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and that comparison mostly proves the point: Carey’s 22 weeks are spread across multiple Decembers as a holiday standard resets and returns every year. “Choosin’ Texas” built its 20 weeks in one continuous run, in-season, against a chart that never stopped moving under it.

The real question now is how much higher it climbs before something finally knocks it loose — and whether 2026 has another single left in it that can even threaten the run.

  • 20 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, as of the chart dated September 5, 2026
  • Now the sole longest-running non-holiday No. 1 in Hot 100 history
  • Previously tied at 19 weeks with “Old Town Road” (Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus) and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (Shaboozey)
  • Second-longest run of any song, behind only Mariah Carey’s 22-week “All I Want for Christmas Is You”
  • Lead single from Ella Langley’s album Dandelion

Key Takeaway: “Choosin’ Texas” isn’t just among the greatest non-holiday chart runs anymore — it now stands alone at the top of that list, and every additional week from here writes new chart history outright.
