EDITION #40 | Sunday, October 11, 2026 (ET)
Your weekly dose of music, entertainment + VIBESXS updates
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This week’s Vibes Weekly newsletter brings a Nashville tribute to Dolly Parton, two major game launches and a weekend of big sports results. 🎵 On this date in 1975, NBC’s Saturday Night premiered with George Carlin hosting and Billy Preston and Janis Ian as musical guests; the program later became Saturday Night Live. AP looks back at the premiere.
🎬 ENTERTAINMENT: HORROR TAKES THE WEEKEND
Other Mommy, the new Jessica Chastain horror film, led North American theatres with an estimated $27.5 million opening. Its 3,365-theatre debut gave October horror another win. The Social Reckoning, the weekend’s other major release, earned an estimated $5.5 million.
Verity placed second with $11.5 million; Resident Evil followed with $8.4 million. Sunday figures are studio estimates, with final totals due Monday. The domestic box office passed $8 billion for 2026 on Friday, up more than 19% year over year but about 8% behind 2019, according to Rentrak figures reported by AP.
🏟️ SPORTS: A STATEMENT AT ANFIELD, A FINISH IN LONDON
Manchester City beat Liverpool 3–0 at Anfield. After Ryan Gravenberch’s second yellow card reduced Liverpool to ten, Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku scored; Rayan Cherki added a third. It was Liverpool’s first league defeat of the season.
In London, the Jacksonville Jaguars edged the Philadelphia Eagles 19–17 on Cam Little’s last-second field goal. Trevor Lawrence threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns, including a late fourth-and-five score to Parker Washington. Jacksonville improved to 4–1; Philadelphia fell to 2–3. The finish capped a game that had swung back and forth after the Eagles led by seven at halftime.
🎮 GAMES & RELEASES: TWO BIG LAUNCHES ARRIVE
Two games previewed last week are now available. Gears of War: E-Day launched October 6 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Game Pass and Steam, returning to the Locust invasion’s opening. Star Wars: Galactic Racer arrived the same day on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The experiences diverge: E-Day is a squad-based action-horror origin story; Galactic Racer takes its racing across the Star Wars galaxy. The next question is how players respond to each launch.
🎵 MUSIC: NEW FRIDAY LISTENING
October 9 brought albums from Jamie T, Troye Sivan and Cameron Winter, plus new tracks from Cat Burns, Good Charlotte and Paul McCartney. Official Charts notes the range: Jamie T’s sixth album alongside Winter’s Carnegie Hall recording, captured at his December 2025 performance. Troye Sivan’s fourth studio album leans into themes of identity, desire and belonging.
Try the singles for a quick sampler, or compare the new full-length releases. The week’s charts will show which sounds connect with listeners across distinct pop, indie and singer-songwriter lanes.
📰 FEATURED STORY: DOLLY PARTON’S STORY IN MANY COLORS
A new Nashville museum brings together the songs, style and generosity behind a life that reached far beyond country radio.
Dolly Parton’s Life of Many Colors Museum opened in Nashville on October 6, six weeks after the singer and entertainer died at 80. The opening was bittersweet for the team who brought her vision to life. Her longtime creative director Steve Summers called it a journey through the many different Dollys that fans have loved.
The 20,000-square-foot museum follows Parton from her Smoky Mountain roots through Dollywood, films, fashion, faith, family and the Imagination Library. It sits inside the 240-room SongTeller Hotel, whose guest rooms include instruments to encourage songwriting. The collection connects the superstar’s public image to the places and people that shaped her.
Her songs travel across genres and generations. “I Will Always Love You,” written as she prepared to leave her professional partnership with Porter Wagoner, became a country hit in Parton’s recording and later an international pop phenomenon through Whitney Houston’s version, which spent 14 weeks at No. 1 in 1992. “9 to 5” linked her writing to a hit film and a workplace anthem. Parton’s knack was to make a sharply observed personal feeling sound like it belonged to everyone.
Among the objects on view is Parton’s original wedding dress, thought lost until her niece found it wrapped in a paper bag inside a trunk. The Imagination Library offers a different kind of keepsake: registered children receive an age-appropriate book each month from birth until age five. The program turns Parton’s love of stories into an ongoing gift to families.
Awards and chart milestones mark one part of Parton’s legacy; the songs, film roles and books woven into other people’s lives mark another. Her ease moving between country, pop, comedy and film made that career unusually broad without losing its unmistakable voice. The museum gives visitors a route through both, with glamour and humour beside the quieter threads of family, faith and literacy—and a legacy still being discovered by new generations.
- 80 years: Parton’s age at her death in August 2026.
- 20,000 square feet: the museum’s exhibition space.
- 240 rooms: the capacity of the adjoining SongTeller Hotel.
- One book each month: the Imagination Library’s gift to each enrolled child through age five.
Key Takeaway: Dolly Parton made a life’s work of turning personal stories into shared ones—through songs, screens, and a book arriving in a child’s mailbox. The Nashville museum now gathers those threads in one place.
