This week’s Vibes Weekly newsletter follows Milwaukee to a 2–0 World Series lead, a comic-book villain to the top of the box office, and a Formula 1 title race that is close to decided. 🎵 Twenty years ago this week, My Chemical Romance released The Black Parade, and on Friday a 20th-anniversary edition arrived with six bonus tracks, including the previously unreleased “Someone Out There Loves You.” mxdwn has the details.
🎬 ENTERTAINMENT: CLAYFACE TAKES THE WEEKEND
Clayface opened at No. 1 with an estimated $24 million from 3,458 theaters, according to Box Office Mojo. Pre-weekend forecasts had it neck and neck with A24’s Nathan Fielder documentary, and the Warner Bros. release edged it.
You Can See Everything took second with an estimated $19.5 million, up from $15 million a week earlier as it expanded from 855 to 2,655 theaters. Wildwood debuted third with about $11.6 million, and Street Fighter slid to an estimated $8.6 million in its second weekend. Wicker opened with $5.75 million, and HYBE Cine Fest 2026, a concert-film event from Trafalgar Releasing, added $4.5 million. All figures are Sunday estimates until Monday’s actuals, and sources differ by a few hundred thousand dollars on some titles.
🏟️ SPORTS: PREMIER LEAGUE SURPRISES, NFL UPSETS AND AN F1 TITLE NEARLY DECIDED
In the Premier League on Saturday, Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2–1, Arsenal won 2–0 against Everton, Fulham won 1–0 at Coventry City and Tottenham won 2–0 at Chelsea.
Sunday brought a 2–0 Liverpool win over Brighton at Anfield, a 2–0 win for Newcastle at Crystal Palace and a 1–1 draw between Hull City and Brentford. Sunderland and Leeds United drew 0–0. At Old Trafford, Manchester United lost 3–0 to Bournemouth, with Bruno Fernandes left out of the starting XI, adding to the pressure on manager Michael Carrick.
In the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons beat the San Francisco 49ers 29–20 to hand them their first loss of the season. The Minnesota Vikings stayed perfect at 6–0 with a 16–10 win over the Indianapolis Colts, and the New York Giants upset the Houston Texans 27–21 in overtime. The Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 20–17 on a walk-off field goal by Jake Bates, and the Pittsburgh Steelers won 16–10 over the New Orleans Saints in Paris.
In Formula 1, Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix in Austin from pole position, finishing about 13 seconds clear of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, with Lewis Hamilton fourth and Lando Norris fifth. Antonelli now leads George Russell by 123 points and needs a top-nine finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix next Sunday to clinch the championship, which would make him the youngest world champion in F1 history.
🎮 GAMES & RELEASES: MODERN WARFARE 4 LANDS WHILE FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE WINS REVIEWS
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched Friday, October 23 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It is built for current-generation hardware, so there is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version, and a Switch 2 version has been announced separately. Pre-launch reporting said it would ship with 12 new core 6-v-6 maps and the return of the DMZ extraction mode.
Final Fantasy Resonance, the series’ first HD-2D entry, launched Thursday, October 22 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC. Early reviews have been strongly positive: Famitsu gave it 36 out of 40, and critics have praised its HD-2D visuals and turn-based combat while some noted predictable storytelling and pacing.
In esports, the League of Legends Worlds Swiss Stage opened Friday in Allen, Texas. Sixteen teams play, with three wins to advance and three losses to go home, and Karmine Corp secured the last place through the Play-In Stage in Los Angeles. Steam Next Fest, with free demos of upcoming games, ends Monday.
🎵 MUSIC: A STACKED NEW MUSIC FRIDAY
October 23 brought Michael Kiwanuka’s fifth album, Fudge, which he produced himself, a first without longtime collaborators Danger Mouse and Inflo. Reviews have been mixed to positive. John Legend and Pharrell Williams released Muse, and Anderson .Paak and Cordae released the collaboration Heavy Is the Crown. My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade returned in its 20th-anniversary edition.
On the Billboard Hot 100 dated October 24, Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” held No. 1 for a third week, after first reaching the top on the chart dated October 10. The next chart is revealed Tuesday.
📰 FEATURED STORY: THE BREWERS TAKE A 2–0 WORLD SERIES LEAD
Two one-run wins at home, one saved by a replay review and the other after trailing 4–0, leave Milwaukee two victories from a title.
The Tampa Bay Rays reached the World Series by beating the Cleveland Guardians 7–3 in ALCS Game 6 on Monday, October 19, behind two-run homers from Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero and 5⅓ innings from ALCS MVP Freddy Peralta. It was the franchise’s third pennant in 29 seasons.
Game 1 on Friday went to the Milwaukee Brewers 3–2 at American Family Field. Milwaukee led 2–0 after the first inning, helped by a Christian Yelich RBI triple. The ending was chaotic. With the bases loaded and one out in the ninth, Liam Hicks hit into what looked like a game-ending double play, and players and fans began celebrating. The Rays challenged, and replay showed rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt had left second base too early. The call was overturned, leaving runners on second and third with two outs, and closer Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca to end it.
Game 2 on Saturday was a comeback. Tampa Bay scored four times in the first inning, including a 411-foot homer by Hicks, the Series’ first. Milwaukee answered with two runs in the first and one in the fourth, then Sal Frelick tied it with a sixth-inning home run off Ian Seymour. In the seventh, Pratt delivered the go-ahead single off Kevin Kelly. Aaron Ashby pitched the ninth, and the Brewers won 5–4 when a check-swing strike call ended the game with the tying run on third.
The Series moves to Tropicana Field for Game 3 on Monday at 8 p.m. ET on FOX, with Peralta expected to start for Tampa Bay.
- 2–0: Milwaukee’s series lead; teams up 2–0 in the World Series have won the title about 80.7% of the time, per MLB.com (55 prior cases).
- 103 and 98: regular-season wins for the Brewers and Rays, the best records in each league.
- 15⅔: scoreless postseason innings for Aaron Ashby, one out short of Andrew Miller’s 2016 mark to begin a postseason.
- Second: the Brewers are only the second team to win six postseason games without scoring first.
Key Takeaway: Milwaukee has beaten Tampa Bay twice by a single run, once after a review overturned a game-ending play and once after trailing 4–0, and now needs two more wins. The Rays turn to Peralta, the ALCS MVP, to get back in the series.
