━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Summer is still moving fast, and this week brought serious chart power, championship drama and blockbuster-sized entertainment news. Fun music-history note: August 16 marks the anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley in 1977 — a date that became inseparable from the mythology of one of the most influential performers in popular music.
🎵 MUSIC IS DOMINATING THE CHARTS
Stray Kids just made Billboard 200 history again. Their new mini album THIS & THAT debuts at No. 1 with 369,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., including 357,000 traditional album sales — the group’s biggest opening week yet. Every one of their first nine Billboard 200 entries has now debuted at No. 1.
The milestone puts Stray Kids at nine Billboard 200 No. 1 albums, tying The Rolling Stones for second among groups. The Beatles remain the overall group record-holder with 19. The streak also gives Stray Kids the distinction of being the first act in Billboard 200 history to debut its first nine charting albums at No. 1.
Elsewhere, Ella Langley continues an extraordinary Hot 100 run: “Choosin’ Texas” is No. 1 for a 17th week, while Ariana Grande occupies two of the chart’s top five positions. Grande’s petal also opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving her a seventh chart-topping album.
🏆 SPORTS BRING THE BIG MOMENTS
Arsenal opened the season with a statement, beating Manchester City 3–0 in the Community Shield. Riccardo Calafiori scored after just 23 seconds — the fastest goal in the fixture in 58 years — before Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard added to the damage.
Golf delivered its own runaway performance as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won the FedEx St. Jude Championship at 17 under par, finishing eight shots clear. It is Scheffler’s 21st PGA Tour victory and his second win of the 2026 season, setting up another major week as the FedExCup playoffs continue.
🎬 D23 + THE BOX OFFICE KEEP THE BUZZ GOING
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still ruling the box office, taking another $70 million domestically in its third weekend. Its domestic total has reached $785.8 million, while its worldwide haul has passed $2 billion — making it only the eighth movie ever to cross that global milestone.
At D23, Disney also delivered a major dose of what’s next. The company unveiled new looks and announcements across movies, animation, television and theme parks, while Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson and other entertainment figures were celebrated as Disney Legends. The weekend reinforced just how much franchise culture continues to drive the entertainment conversation.
🔥 FEATURED STORY: STRAY KIDS MAKE BILLBOARD HISTORY — AGAIN
Nine straight No. 1 albums. A career-best opening. A new Billboard 200 record.
Stray Kids have turned consistency into history. THIS & THAT arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, extending the group’s perfect streak to nine consecutive chart-topping debuts.
The numbers are especially striking because the new project did not simply repeat the group’s previous performance — it exceeded it. With 369,000 equivalent album units, THIS & THAT becomes their biggest U.S. opening week to date, surpassing the 313,000-unit debut of KARMA.
- No. 1: Billboard 200 debut
- 369,000: first-week equivalent album units
- 357,000: traditional album sales
- 9: Billboard 200 No. 1 albums
- 9-for-9: every Billboard 200 entry has debuted at No. 1
- 19: Billboard 200 No. 1 albums for The Beatles, the group record
There is also a bigger industry story here. In an era dominated by streaming, the scale of Stray Kids‘ traditional album sales shows how powerful global fandom can be when fans mobilize around a release. Physical editions, collector culture and direct fan purchasing remain major forces — particularly for artists with deeply engaged international audiences.
The group is now tied with The Rolling Stones for the second-most No. 1 albums among groups on the Billboard 200. The only act ahead of them is The Beatles, whose 19 No. 1s remain the benchmark.
Key Takeaway: Stray Kids aren’t simply having another successful release week — they’re building one of the most consistent Billboard 200 runs of the modern era, proving that fan connection can still translate into enormous chart power.
